Andrews has been a featured soloist on numerous film scores by composer Charles Bernstein, whose numerous credits include A Nightmare on Elm Street, Return with Honor and Freddy vs. Jason, plus additional music for Kill Bill Vol. 1, and Inglorious Basterds.
He arranged background vocals and played all string parts on Who Could Imagine, the most recent album by actor (Goodfellas) and songwriter Tony Powers, best known as the writer of the Top-40 hits “Lazy Day” (Spanky and Our Gang), “98.6” (Keith) and “Today I Met the Boy I’m Gonna Marry” (Darlene Love).
In 2012 Andrews toured the nation with writer-singer Steve Meckfessel, and served as lead guitarist and bandleader on the “Chelsea Madchen” tour, the Nico tribute of singer Tammy Lang, a.k.a. Tammy Faye Starlite, and on a subsequent Tammy Faye Starlite tour.
The band he led included drummer Pete Thomas and violinist Lisa Germano. Reviewing a show on the tour, Huffington Post music correspondent Wendy Block called Andrews “…talented and entertaining …a virtuoso guitarist,” also noting the band “…played some of the tightest blues rock I’ve heard in years.” Pet Shop Boy Neil Tennant told the New York Daily News, “The band was brilliant.”
He also recently played mandolin and guitar on stage with Carlene Carter, daughter of June Carter, step-daughter of Johnny Cash, bearer of the magnificent Carter Family lineage.
Best-selling author and blues historian Byron Laursen called Andrews “A jaw-dropping player… incredibly expressive in several genres, a generous musician who lifts the performances of players around him.”
Recently Andrews has been gigging again with Coco Dolenz, sister of Micky Dolenz of The Monkees, in cabaret shows running the gamut from Patsy Cline to Great American Songbook classics. Andrews had previously backed Ms. Dolenz at a sold-out Troubadour show in 1972. https://youtu.be/gmUTijBqSRE
